Proposals for new gambling
regulations are published to wide puzzlement. Who asked for 40
super-casinos in our run-down cities? Nobody seems to be able
to recall this in any manifesto, nor having witnessed any public
clamour for more slot machines in British life. Could there perchance
be some promise of big-bucks back-handers being offrered to our
Treasury from those altruistic folk who run international gambling?
Surely not. Whatever, the less well-heeled are bound to be the
ones who lose.
