The government announces
"The Big Recycle" - a week of publicity to highlight
the need for increasing the proportion of waste recycled by the
UK. It turns out, predictably, to be pretty low at present, compared
to the impressive green record of other Europeans such as Austria
and Germany. The announcement comes after a week in which the
price of a barrel of oil has passed $60 for the first time, just
to underline the urgency of addressing environmental issues. Blair
has ignored the environment until now. Is this the tipping point?
