Health Secretary Patricia
Hewitt announces a new "Accident & Emergency at Home"
feature in order to save money on the ambulance service. Non-emergency
999 call-outs will now be dealt with by specially trained "Emergency
Care Practitioners" who will travel by car and motorbike
to administer patch-up treatment in situ, thereby saving
the NHS an estimated 1 million unneccessary patient-visits to
A&E departments.
