Tony Blair visits a Murdoch
symposium in Pebble Beach, California and delivers a paper to
the great man and his courtiers entitled "Leadership in the
Modern World". This seems like some kind of false deferment
on the part of the Dirty Digger - he is after all a man who has
devoted al his adult life to the pursuit of money and power, and
has exercised more leadership than most mortals in the modern
age. The trip is widely seen as an audition on Blair's part; it
seems that he is after a sinecure in the Murdoch empire in the
post-Downing Street world. It all makes everyone look rather impressive;
Blair gets to deliver his "statecraft" address and Murdoch
gets to preen his vanity by having a world leader talk at his
frat party. Just couldn't help thinking of the Sun King.
