ex-minister and ultra-Blairite
"moderniser" Stephen Byers comes out with his wizard
idea of cutting inheritance tax as the way forward for Labour
taxation policy. Oh dear. What would Clement Atlee have made of
it? Its populist thrust may have had greater impact in term time,
but it still may be a minor stinging irritation to Gordon Brown
while he's enjoying his summer holiday reading in the garden.
