Hezbollah leader Hassan
Nasrallah has said he would not have ordered the capture of two
Israeli soldiers if he had known it would lead to such a war.
This is not exactly "sorry", but seems to be an expression
of mild regret. "Had we known that the kidnapping of the
soldiers would have led to this, we would definitely not have
done it," he told Lebanese TV. Surely a litle naivete here?
After all, the Lebanese have some experience of the Israel's ruthlessness
towards incursions across its border. Israel's armed assaults
into southern Lebanon were widely labelled as a "disproportionate
response" to these kidnappings. Might his desultory response
to all the resulting death and carnage also be a little "disproportionate"?
