Brown and chancellor Darling finally acknowledge that ailing bank
Northern Rock must be nationalised. Such a Socialist-sounding
word is never uttered in the process - the bank is merely being
"temporarily taken into public ownership". Which is
completely different. It is widely concluded that Brown has lost
confidence in Darling, who gives the appearance of a man unfamiliar
with the essential identifiers of arse and elbow. Brown, the man
who - as chancellor - had created the ambient laissez-faire financial
conditions which led to the crash by not sufficiently monitoring
the FSA's and the Bank of England's monetary policing role, has
seemingly emerged in a better position than Darling, who appears
to be well and truly paddle-less up Shit Creek.
